Partnering with RunReveal
Announcing their $7M raise to replace legacy SIEM with AI-native security workflows
It’s February 12 and I’m sitting across from my friend John Cowgill from Costanoa at Tartine Manufactory in San Francisco. The topic of discussion? His portfolio company, RunReveal.
I’d heard rumblings about RunReveal from security and engineering friends for some time. Even though they were a pre-seed company, they already had customers like Temporal, Cloudflare, ClickHouse, and Harvey.
Why? They were doing something fundamentally different in the security data space - giving users unprecedented control and scalability. In short, customers were loving it.
I’ve been investing in early-stage security companies for nearly a decade. The security data space has always been both intriguing and complicated.
On the one hand, it's a massive market still dominated by legacy SIEM players like Splunk and Sumo Logic who together generate billions in revenue. On the other, customers are tired of the growing cost and numerous attempts to wrangle their security data. They have to bolt on a mess of tools for filtering, transformation, detection, and threat hunting. It’s expensive, convoluted, and still doesn’t deliver real value.
The opportunity to build something better? Undoubtedly big. Convincing a security team to trust a new vendor? Not so easy.
You’d need a completely new approach - one that tackles every major pain point in today’s stack. And a team that deeply understands core infrastructure and has incredible user empathy.
After meeting with John, I scrambled to meet Co-Founders Evan and Alan in person and it all became clear: RunReveal had done just that. They’d collapsed the entire security data stack into a single, elegant platform fit for the most modern security teams.
They built a system that scales, without scaling costs. One that gives teams the foundation to build AI agents that actually work. And under the hood: ClickHouse for queries, a custom high-throughput event processing engine called kawa, and their own MCP server to power detections and AI-assisted investigations.
For AI-native companies, dealing with more data than ever before, RunReveal is already becoming the go-to choice. From day 1, these teams know they need a platform that can scale with them.
Over the past few months, I’ve watched RunReveal move at an incredible pace. If you follow the team on LinkedIn or X, you’ve seen the rapid stream of releases and customer wins.
Today, I’m thrilled to officially announce that Modern Technical Fund has joined their $7M seed round alongside Costanoa Ventures (doubling down), Runtime Ventures, Okta Ventures, and some fantastic AI and security angel investors. I couldn’t be more excited about partnering with Evan, Alan, and the rest of the RunReveal team!
